{"id":5227,"date":"2023-02-28T07:43:51","date_gmt":"2023-02-28T07:43:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ydf.ly\/?p=5227"},"modified":"2026-05-22T18:49:32","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T16:49:32","slug":"statement-regarding-the-briefing-of-the-special-representative-of-the-united-nations-secretary-general","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ydf.ly\/?p=5227&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"Statement Regarding the Briefing of the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><strong>The Youth Dialogue Forum supports the initiative of the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General aimed at restoring the political process and achieving the organization of elections on a clear and mutually agreed basis<\/strong><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Youth Political Dialogue Forum followed the briefing delivered by the Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya and the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Abdoulaye Bathily, as well as his initiative concerning preparations for elections during the year 2023 through the formation of a high-level steering committee bringing together Libyan stakeholders, including representatives of political institutions, political figures, civil society organizations, security actors, women, and youth. This aligns with the vision presented by the Forum during its press conference on 12 December 2022, in which it launched the outlines of a comprehensive national vision emphasizing the necessity of preparing for elections and initiating a national dialogue that includes all Libyans and paves the way constitutionally and legally, in accordance with a comprehensive national vision to end the Libyan crisis through elections, especially after legislative institutions failed to reach political consensus and restore the political process following its suspension on 24 December 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the Forum supports and welcomes the initiative and plan of the UN envoy as a basis for preparing and paving the way for elections \u2014 presented under the mandate granted to him by the United Nations Security Council \u2014 it calls on all Libyan parties and key stakeholders to cooperate constructively with him in accomplishing his mission and reaching a clear agreement and specific roadmap that would allow for the holding of free and transparent elections. At the same time, the Forum urges Mr. Bathily and the UN mission team to broaden the scope of consultations locally and internationally, and to ensure thorough preparation for this process while strengthening it politically and legally so that it becomes effective and achieves its intended outcomes.
