The Youth Dialogue Forum has followed with great interest and optimism the signing by the Libyan Dialogue Committee’s Mini-Committee (4+4) of the final agreement on the implementation of the political roadmap facilitated by the United Nations.
In this context, the Forum commends the pivotal role played by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) in sponsoring and facilitating this dialogue, and calls on the Mission to redouble its efforts to ensure broader and more effective participation of national forces, civil society organizations, and youth throughout all stages of the political process.
At the Youth Dialogue Forum, while welcoming this step amid the prevailing political stalemate and the inability of the legislative institutions to reach a final agreement on a political roadmap leading to elections, we see this consensus as an important opportunity to save our country from the cycle of conflict and to push the existing institutions toward adherence to a peaceful political process.
Based on our national responsibility and aspirations, we emphasize the following:
First: We call on all political parties and national institutions to demonstrate historical responsibility and move immediately from the stage of signatures and promises to the stage of effective implementation, without missing this opportunity to end the political and institutional division that has placed a heavy burden on the Libyan people.
Second: We affirm that the reconstitution of the electoral commission must be a serious and swift step toward the ultimate objective: holding comprehensive, free, and fair presidential and parliamentary elections that restore the people’s right to determine their future through the ballot box.
Third: Reaching a realistic and implementable constitutional and legal framework for elections in which all parties can participate and whose results are accepted by all must be the ultimate outcome of this agreement. We stress that any political ambition must be pursued through the ballot box and within clearly defined laws that everyone accepts and respects.
Fourth: The Libyan people, in all their communities and regions, have endured prolonged instability. It is time to turn the page on successive transitional phases that have exhausted the country’s resources and the aspirations of its youth. The current phase also requires the existing institutions to address the accumulated economic and service-related challenges, improve living standards, and create an environment that guarantees young people a dignified and secure future in their homeland.
The Forum emphasizes that its support for this process stems from the national interest and its commitment to the goal of reaching elections and bringing an end to the successive transitional phases.
In conclusion, the Youth Dialogue Forum reaffirms that it will remain a national voice supporting every sincere effort aimed at ensuring Libya’s stability and unity. We call upon all Libyans, particularly the youth, to rally around and support this process in order to ensure that Libya reaches a safe and stable future.
